A bit of help would be appreciated here,

I'm trying to setup a test 10.6 Server, but seem to be having problems with network logins and I'm not sure where I'm going wrong:

This is the sequence of steps I've taken.

- Installed OSX Server accepting the defaults -
- Gone to server admin/sharepoints Users share and enabled auto mount for home folders -
- Gone into WorkGroup Manager and authenticated into directory and created network user.
- Created home folder for network user

On client
- Binding is done

When I try to login using the network users details I always get this error
"You are unable to log in to the user account " " at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred"

I've tried reinstalling the server twice and still get the same error when I try and do a network login.

Any help would be appreciated.

It depends on how the server was setup.

There is a good chance that SACL's are enabled. If so any user you create in WGM will not get added to the SACL that controls the AFP services.

Just run Server Admin > Access Tab > Services.

Check if a SACL is enabled on the AFP service. If so either remove it or add your new user.

Hope this helps

Richard

Have you changed the location of the home folders to something other than the default?

You could try checking the permissions on your user homes directory.
Or, for a quick test -
- create a new share, set the permissions to everyone can do everything,
- create the user home in WGM
- see if you can log in.
